This is it- my first blog entry. Special thanks to Amy Prokop for getting me going. So, I'm wondering about you, fellow blog readers. What brings you here? And what makes a blog worth your time? Surely, it is not to find out what people had for breakfast. However, I would like to ask for your input on a breakfast challenge I am currently facing.
I have been dealing with a few health concerns and I'm longing to do everything in my power to heal in a natural way. I'm on a major health kick right now, which (as with every health kick I've ever been on) I'm hoping will last forever. I'm exercising regularly. Oh! That brings me to an important aside...I secretly long to have an "S List", like Oprah's "O List" in her mag. So, I'm going to post things here from time to time that I would put on my list of "things I think are just great". "S List" item number one: online personal training from http://www.gymamerica.com/. You input your goals, your current ability (like how many push-ups you can complete) and boom- it gives you a calendar with a specific training regimen tailored to your needs. I'm doing the 28-day women's toning program right now. I'm in week 2 and so far I've only missed one day (it's a 7-day a week workout). It's tough getting to the gym on travel days, but Ron and I are doing our best. We are at home in Jersey right now which simplifies everything. Ron (my husband) is on a health kick as well, but his is more about his waistline. Though I am as vain as the next person (almost cried yesterday when my hair was cut too short...ridic) I am motivated more by pre-cancerous cells and my tendency toward depression, particularly in the colder months. So, back to my health kick and my breakfast dilemma. One of the things I have been most excited about on my wellness plan is getting into the whole juicing thing. Did any of you see the awesome documentary "Crazy Sexy Cancer"? (Check out the website and read Kris Carr's fantastic blog.) I saw Kris, who has Stage Four cancer, on Oprah and immediately ordered her book "Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips." (Put that book on my "S" List, too.) Kris investigated every possible remedy to heal her body and one of the things that is working for her is drinking vegetable juices in the morning. Dr. Oz just talked about them this week on the Ops, too, as part of his "aging well" program. Well, I quickly ordered my Breville compact juicer and this morning I whizzed together some kale, parsley, celery, cucumber, apple, and lemon...YUMMY! It really tasted surprisingly good. Ron even drank a glass. I feel like juicing is essential to my reaching the level of optimum health that I'm after. So, here's the problem. We're leaving home tomorrow to hit the road again. Ninety percent of the time, we are in hotels. Even if there is a mini-bar (which is not always the case) it's pretty hard to stuff a bunch of kale in one of those little boxes. The juicer takes up a lot of space in a suitcase, and where do I go to get organic produce in each city? Ron thinks I am absolutely batty for even contemplating traveling with a big ol' juicer. What do you think? It would be a giant inconvenience to schlep all that stuff around and try to juice veggies in a small hotel room with two adults and two big dogs. But, as I keep reminding Ron, chemotherapy would be a bigger inconvenience. Let me be clear: I do not have cancer. But shouldn't I (heck, shouldn't we all?) be doing everything in my power to stave off the bad cells? To pack or not to pack the juicer? That is the question. Tomorrow, we shove off to Cleveland. So, respond pronto! And what would be tops on your "Your first initial List"?

Hi dearest Sandra,
I'm really sad reading about your health news...You have all my love, care and support and anything you need here I'll be always to help you and cheer you up!
I think if your journey is going to be long you should take the juicer with you. I always say "you never know when you are going to need something you have left behind".
Maybe you don't have to use it everyday, but who knows when you can really need it.
And you know it: you have a friend here you loves you so much!
Hey Sandra..
SO glad you do not have cancer. And also glad that you are being cautious and also optimistic. Thats important!! My aunt was diagnosed with cervical cancer recently, and I thought you might want to see her journal. She is really inspiring!

We all have our obstacles in life, but if we refuse to let them hold us back, they aren't really obstacles, are they? :)

Welcome to the blogosphere! Perfect timing for a little inspiration to stay active -- I just finished a very physical show, and need to keep my momentum going.
Happy adventuring! If you're ever in Chicagoland and feel like lunch with an old MSU compatriot, drop me a line...
Hello, It's great to see you have a blog now! You have been my absolute favorite Christine since I first saw you in 1996 in Lansing. But anyway...
I adore organic foods! I love a particular juice called "Naked." It's made purely with fruits and sometimes vegatables. I most prefer the "Cherry Pomegrante Power" flavor, and it gives me natural energy that lasts throughout the day. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

Dear Sandra,
Great to see your blog! I've been a big fan of yours, ever since seeing you in 2003 as "Phantom Girl"! Glad to hear it's not cancer, but that you are taking steps to make sure that it doesn't become the big bad C. No, I had not heard of "Crazy Sexy Cancer," so I don't know of this. I've had a few cancer scares so far in my much older life (than yours), but I've not been motivated for some stupid reason, as you have! You're inspiring me!
I say, yes, take the juicer, even if it's big and bulky! It's something that's giving your comfort, as well as wonderful nutrition! You will most likely be touring in fairly large cities, right? I know you'll be able to find organic produce--I just know it! Look for "Whole Foods," of course, if you can't find local organic produce. I have a friend at work who's from Cleveland, so I'll ask her tomorrow. If you're in D.C. metro area, I know plenty of places, so I'll keep checking your blog to get updates.
Best wishes, and peace, and love,
Jan (A.J. for Aunt Jan to all my nieces and nephews who have blogs)

Hi Sandra~
I was very happy to receive the news about this new blog. I have it bookmarked and will visit it often.
I can still remember vividly--the evening I met you at the stage door--how beautiful you are--inside and out! You have the voice of an Angel--just as I imagine Christine may have had. What a beautiful, talented lady you are!
I am sorry to hear about your distress--and I think you should take your juicer along--for the peace of mind it will give you. There are many super markets with sections just for the type of foods you will need.
I have never been faced with the cancer scare myself--but my husband has on several occasions. So I know full well how scary it can be. Keep doing what you are doing--and all will turn out for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers--keep your chin up--knowing how many devoted fans you have that love and adore you should help greatly when those dark days of depression come on.
Cheers!
Jenny
I'm still in awe over this blog.
I have a Magic Bullet, it comes with a juicing tool, maybe it's smaller than your "compact" juicer. And you could make frozen drinks with it!
Dear Sandra,
My co-worker used her resources from her friends & family who still live in Cleveland and sent me the following information on places with organic foods:
Fresh Market: 20233 Van Aken Blvd. Shaker Heights, OH, 216-283-5774
Wild Oats: 27249 Chagrin Blvd. Woodmere, OH, 216-464-9403
Whole Foods Market: 13998 Cedar Rd. University Heights, OH 216-371-5320
Trader Joes: 28809 Chagrin Blvd. Beachwood, OH, 216-360-9320
These are all on the east side of Cleveland. I hope this helps.
And, her mother is going to see "High School Musical" on Saturday at the matinee!
Best wishes,
Jan
Jan,
I can't seem to figure out how to email you directly, but hopefully you'll get this. THANK YOU SO MUCH! And please thank your awesome organic coworker for me, too! I can't wait to get to Cleveland and go on a veg hunt. Bless you!
Hi Sandra!!
As a fellow singer and healthnut, I would like to tell you something that I'm about to try. I have hypoglycemia, a blood sugar problem. I feel bad constantly. I'm about to start getting acupuncture. My dad goes for his back and it said on the list that it cures 87% of hypoglycemia cases. It also cures depression and other things like that. If you get the chance you might try it.
You're awesome!!
Love,

hey there, Sandra! it's me Sarah from Cleveland. Since Kieth always gets to say hello, I thought I would get my two, or ten, cents in.
Yes, cancer is very scary. My mom went through it last summer-but I am ecstatically happy to reoprt she is in the all clear now! It's really great and super smart that you are using your noodle and dong what you can to prevent it. We need that beautiful voice and smile so you take care of youself!!I am terrible that way. I don't eat healthy or really excercise. I know I should. Perhaps I will try to follow your example, but I can't promise anything about the vegetable juice. Congrats on getting the juicer in there;)
I hope you are enjoying Cleveland. isn't it so exciting? ha. it's not too bad. The show got a great review that I read earlier. Congrats to Ron and the cast!! And please don't worry-I am sure your hair looks wonderful. now, if only I can get something done with mine before dinner. EEK! take care and we can't wait!
